We Laugh, We Cry, We Cook is a collection of heartwarming stories and favorite recipes written by Becky Johnson and her daughter, Rachel Randolph. Although their personalities are quite different, they both share a love of food. Easy to read and sure to put a smile on your face, this book proves that love can truly bind us together during tough times.
I enjoyed reading this book immensely. The stories are hilariously funny and witty. As a mother myself, many of them hit home. I especially identified with the chapter titled, “Lost in Mom Space.” Can any of you relate? Here’s one of my favorite quotes by Rachel, who is experiencing motherhood for the first time.
There are things about God that are hard to grasp until you love a child. Then it all comes pouring in. I think of the overwhelming love I feel for Jackson, my interest in every little thing he does, my desire for him to experience deep love and joy, my protective instincts that leap to shield him from any worldly pain – and I realize afresh, in a whole new way, all of that is just a fraction of the way God loves me.
Many of the recipes in We Laugh, We Cry, We Cook are vegan, which I particularly appreciated. You will also find tried-and-true favorites if you happen to be a meat lover. There are so many recipes I can’t wait to try, from the Blueberry-Raspberry Oat Bars to the Roasted Poblano Corn Chowder, but at the top of my list is the Sweet Potato Pecan Pie Oatmeal Bake, which I’ll share with you on the blog tomorrow (trust me: it’s as good as it sounds!).
More than anything, We Laugh, We Cry, We Cook made me laugh. I loved the humor and quick wit. Too often we can get so caught up in our own lives that we forget to do just that. Laughter is important! Finding joy in everyday life is important. Is your life joy-filled? If not, then find something you love to do and do it. As for me? You’re most likely to find me in the kitchen – baking something delicious for those I love.
Until next time,
